To become a parachute rigger in the UK, you first need to qualify as an Approved Packer (main parachutes) and an Advanced Packer (reserve parachutes)

The first rigging course is the Basic Rigger course and after a period of experience under supervision you take the Parachute Rigger course to qualify.

After 2 years of experience as a Parachute Rigger you can upgrade to become an Advanced Rigger

After a further 3 years of experience as an Advanced Rigger you can upgrade to become a Rigger Examiner

How to Qualify

A parachute rigger is a person who is trained to inspect, pack, and repair parachutes. A rigger is required to understand fabrics, hardware, webbing, regulations, packing, equipment design & construction, sewing machine skills, manufacturing skills and other aspects related to maintaining parachute equipment.
