Icarus Student

With the Icarus Student ZP-7 canopy, you can give your students the advantage of an all Zero Porosity elliptical planform canopy with cruizy 7-cell performance. Do this while maintaining an additional margin for safety protecting both the student and yourself from the most dangerous part of the skydive... their own actions! Give them canopies which will yield the flight performance they need to learn, without increasing your risk or fear of injury when they do the kinds of unpredictable things which students will do.

Injury potential relates directly to the speed the canopy can possibly attain, typically about 4-5 times the canopy flight speed at full drive. In many cases, a drop zone operator will choose a larger canopy size for his students, which minimizes the speed, but sacrifices penetration, performance and pack volume in the process.

What's needed?:
Easy landings
Low turn rates
Low velocity during turns
Un-stallable canopy
Unable to sustain collapsed end cells
High reliability
Predictable openings
Reasonable penetration
Sounds like a 7-cell to us !!

These attributes describe the ideal performance parameters for a student canopy, and they far more resemble that of a 7-cell than a 9-cell! There's a significant message there!

The Icarus Solution:

The Icarus Student ZP-7 is a totally new concept in a Student Canopy. A key safety feature of this canopy is the development and utilization of centrally rigged control lines. The canopy has a slower turn rate, and at the same time it limits the rate of descent in the turn. The result Ð Instead of multiplying the full drive velocity during a turn by 4 or 5 times, the velocity will only increase marginally. Your student could spiral as hard as they want to, and still they will not be going significantly faster than at full drive. This is a totally new concept in student canopy design. We do not need to explain the massive safety advantage this lends to the canopy and any student operation.

Built to Last

The construction technique and materials used in the Icarus Student ZP-7 canopy will reduce your operating costs significantly over the life of the canopy. We have seen canopies still in service after 2000 jumps that are still going strong. We build these canopies to withstand constant use in a commercial drop zone environment where hired packers and quick turns.

Combine this significant service with additional safety features of the Icarus Student ZP-7and then couple all of that to the durability of an industrial strength student parachute and watch your bottom line soar!
